Day 8 - Washing Day
Free day today to explore Alice Springs, I had every intention of going to see the MacDonnell Ranges but the weather wasn’t great and after three days on the road I was more than okay with a lazy day in town. I put a wash on and reorganised my bag ready for an early departure the following day. Domi arrived mid morning and we set off to explore. Having spent the previous three days together as the only two passengers on the first part of the tour we’d become good friends and

Day 7 - The Stones
Someone left camp at 3am. *BANG! *CRASH! *CLANG! I needed more sleep. We headed out of camp at 7.00am, a late start for us after the previous two days but we'd made good ground and so could afford the time. We pulled in by the cabins where Maz was staying to say goodbye. I jumped out of the passenger seat and headed over before backtracking to the car and opening the door to ask the others if they remembered the room number. “Four,” said Domi, a little too quickly. “Thanks,”

Day 6 - Low Flying DUCK!
I woke before the alarm and went for a shower at 4.30am, I’d asked Domi the night before if there were towels in the bathroom and she’d said there were. She just neglected to mention one was a hand towel and the other a bathmat! We set off after breakfast at 6.00am and with the sun rising in the rearview mirror we pulled over just a few kilometres out of town to take photos. On our way again we drove the first 150 kilometres to Julia Creek and then a further 130 to reach Clon

Day 5 - Long Road Ahead
My alarm went off at 4.30am, my hotel wake up call came through at 4.45am and my back-up for my back-up phoned at 5.00am. I wasn’t taking any chances! I checked out at 5.30am and waited downstairs for my ride. This was to be day one of a week’s Adventure Tour from Cairns. As Ross, our guide for the coming days loaded my gear into the trailer he advised that there was to be a change of plans with regard to the route due to flooding in the region we were to be travelling throug

Day 4 - Next Destination
I was up early to write and pack. I also had the pleasure of meeting my Airbnb host who had returned from a couple of nights in Queensland, she was lovely. She asked me if I was from Queensland because I had the heat pump on. I told her I was Tasmanian but yet to acclimatise. And so to the airport! Seems it’s all self check-in and baggage drop now, shows how long since I’ve been in Sydney airport. In other news my bag weighed 3.5kg less, winning! Once through security I got m

Day 3 - Bondi
I had some packing to do on this morning but it was bound for the post office, not the airport. I nominated a pair of runners, casual shoes, three tops, my running tights and a pair of shorts to return home early. This, and removing my iPad and battery pack from my luggage was to account for the 3kgs that cost me $70 on the way here. I also needed to do some washing. My backpack was coming in handy and at least today it was bursting at the seams for a good reason. Up the hill

Day 2 - Up And Go
My alarm went off at 6am. I had no idea where I was or why my alarm would be sounding so early on a Sunday. Then everything slowly fell into place as I thought back to the previous week when I received this message from Kelly. “How would you like to walk over the Harbour Bridge while you’re here next Sunday?” She'd thoughtfully included a link to the Sydney Running Festival site. “I will give it some thought, I’m a bit hopeless with heights,” I replied. “It’s the Harbour Brid

Day 1 - Right At Home
I’ve never been good with anticipation, too much time to think, mull things over, come up with all the reasons why, why not. Flying? Pass. I’d rather go by road. Sure it takes longer but at least the bumps aren’t felt whilst at however many thousand feet and not travelling at a cruising speed in the proximity of 900 km/h. Never mind, I had bigger problems on the morning of my departure, packing my bag. I am to be away for just two weeks and had to pay seventy dollars in exces

My Bold Line
Let's go! Getting ready to hit the road in the coming weeks, stay tuned and then join me for the drive!
